5 Cozy Christmas Activities for Little Learners
It’s the MOST wonderful tiiiiimmmme, of the YEEAARRR!! Did you sing that with me? :) Haha! It’s FINALLY time for the happiest time of the whole year…CHRISTMAS TIME! So, here are 5 of my favorite Christmas-themed activities to do with little ones this season! Scroll down to check out these quick, fun ways to play and learn this holiday.
Oh, CHRISTMAS BOOKS. I’m just CRAZY about Christmas books. I know reading with your littles sounds so simple, but it’s seriously the BEST thing for them and they LOVE to be snuggled up with you to read. I’ve found that the more I read for myself AND read to my little guy, the more he sees that behavior modeled and wants to do it too. Anyway, I’ve linked to some of my all-time FAVORITE Christmas books for toddlers and my favorite Christmas books for kindergarteners HERE.
Busy books are my new favorite way to learn about ALL THE THINGS. Haha! You can attach the pages to a Target blank book or even just a small journal or notebook and keep all the activities in one spot. They make great activities for taking in the car, on road trips, or to stay busy waiting somewhere, like the doctor or a repair shop. We’ll be doing this Countdown to Christmas Busy Book starting December 1 and playing with this Christmas busy book all month long too! Seriously…they’re our favorite new way to learn and play.
3. Christmas Hands-On Activities
Another cozy thing we do together is play and learn with hands-on centers. Hands-on centers in our house is basically any kind of activity that has my little guy using his hands, body, and brain all together to complete an activity. As kids get older, activities tend to get less “hands-on” and more paper/pencil related. And, while there’s nothing wrong with paper/pencil activities, it’s usually best for our younger kiddos to learn through playing and using their bodies to practice and internalize new skills. SO, hands-on centers give us a fun way to play and learn WHILE using our bodies. We do a lot of sorting, matching, running back and forth from one spot to another, playing games, and singing songs to learn the early literacy and math skills that my kiddo needs to learn. These Christmas-themed centers will be our learning entertainment this month.
