13 Winter Freebies for K-2 Students
Happy winter, sweet friends!
I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE the cold weather, the happy holidays, and all the encouragement to relax and refresh and soak in time with the people you love. It makes me feel all warm and cozy just thinking about it! :)
So, to help your winter time be just a LITTLE less stressful and a lot more fun, here’s a quick little round-up of 13 amazing winter-themed freebies from other teachers that are sure to keep your kindergarten, first, and second grade students learning and enjoying it! 1. Snowball Sounds Freebie: A Beginning and Ending Sounds Activity from Alleah (Alleah Maree)
If you’re looking for an engaging way to practice beginning and ending sounds this winter, these simple, FREE task cards are a great way for your little learners to practice beginning and ending sound identification this holiday season! 4. Winter Word Puzzles from Kaitlyn (The Stay-at-Home Teacher)
These winter-themed word puzzles from Kaitlyn are ADORABLE and great for your pre-readers and pre-writers this season! Students will practice reading and building words by putting together puzzles and writing or tracing the matching winter vocabulary words. 5. Winter Activities for Letter Names and Sounds from Erin (Littles Love Literacy)
This activity from Erin is called Snowflake Letters on the Wall. All you do is tape the snowflake letters to a door or wall and model how your your little learners will throw snowballs to hit a letters. “Snowballs” can be made of crumpled pieces of paper, white balls, or even cotton balls! Then students will say the name or sound of the letters they hit. This little freebie is great for small group review or a literacy center!
6. Build an Igloo STEM Activity from Rachael (Literacy with the Littles)

7. Addition Shopping Problems from Storie (Stories by Storie)
Storie has this adorable activity for building a snowman without ever leaving the classroom! And this snowman supplies freebie is a great way to practice addition with up to four 2-digit numbers.
This resource includes a snowman supplies poster, 8 task cards with a list of items, 2 types of recording sheets, and an answer key. Students just select a task card and use the poster to figure out the price of each item. Then, they’ll add all the item prices find the total cost. Super fun, simple, and highly engaging!
8. Winter Break My Favorite Things Writing Activity from Amy (The Kinder Life)
If you need a fun writing activity for when students come back from winter break, this no-prep writing freebie is a simple way to let student share stories about their winter break! There are three different versions included, which makes it super easy to differentiate for your learners. This one is a really fun, pressure-less way to welcome kiddos back from the winter break while slowly easing them back into learning.
9. Winter Place Value Freebie from Casie (The Curious Hippo)
This math freebie is a fun, interactive way to review place value skills this winter! Students will find the numbered task cards and identify the hundreds, tens, and one for each card and record their findings on their recording sheets. There are 15 black and white task cards included and each card has one of 3 different number forms on it: standard form, word form, and picture form. A perfect math activity to keep your students having fun AND learning!
10. Arctic Thematic Unit from Leigh (The Applicious Teacher)
This freebie is a great resource to add to any arctic research your students may be working on this winter! Since learning about the arctic climate during the winter is a pretty common science theme, this freebie gives students some great structure for collecting and recording information. 11. Winter Themed ABC FREEBIE from Angela (Angela Linzay)
This freebie from Angela is a great way for your students to work on their alphabetizing skills! Students sort the cards into a list of 3 words based on their matching pictures. Then, they write all the words from that group in the space with the matching winter picture. This is a really low prep activity that could be used as a write the room, literacy center, or whole group activity.
12. If I lived in a Snow Globe Writing Craftivity from Caileigh (The Dennis Crew)
This creative writing freebie is sure to get your students excited about writing about what they would do if they lived in a snow globe! After they’re finished writing, they can either draw a picture of themselves in the snow globe or you can add a picture students to the snow globe.
This freebie includes writing paper with "If I lived in a Snow Globe" with 2 different kinds of writing lines and a snow globe page topper. It would make a perfect bulletin board display for December or January!
13. Winter Place Value (2-3 Digit Practice) from Melissa (Apple of Their Eye)
This last freebie is perfect for students practicing place value skills with 2 and 3-digit numbers. There are a variety of recording sheets and included for each of the 5 centers included.
