1. Farm Animal Books
Just below, I’ve linked to a handful of our very favorite farm animal books. My little guy is 2 and we do a lot of identifying which animal is which while we read these, along with retelling the story too. He’s practicing telling me what’s happening on each page in his own little way, which is not only ADORABLE, but also really good for his comprehension skills. And, as we all know, books are an INCREDIBLE way to learn new things at ANY age. Even if your little one just wants to look at the pictures, point out things he or she recognizes, or can make some kind of connection to the text, those are all AMAZING early literacy skills. Books are the very best! :)
2. Farm Animal Sensory Bins and Activities
In addition to all those books, we also use a bunch of the activities from this resource! There are 16 activities included that can be used as centers activities or sensory bins, each with a recording sheet that may be completed depending on your little one’s needs and skills. There are also a few more song, video, and book suggestions for learning about life on a farm and animal sounds included too!
Inside, there are activities to practice are tracing, matching pictures, matching letters, letter sounds, ABC order, write the room with farm words, sight word recognition, syllable counting, colors, patterns, shapes, counting, simple addition and subtraction, life cycles, and fine motor skills with play dough. My little guy is 2 and we use one activity at a time, but you could incorporate as many as you think your little one needs to learn well and stay focused.
3. Farm Animal Songs
I’ve linked to a few of our favorite farm animal songs below! My little one is 2 and he dances all around the room and knows almost every one of his farm animal sounds because of these songs. Singing is a great way to develop vocabulary and speech, as well as learn new information! Putting new information into a song allows it to be repeated in a catchy way that sticks in your brain more easily. So, bring on the songs, yes?!
There are a TON of great options for farm animal crafts floating around out there! So, here are a few of my favorite options. These crafts are super simple and really cute! They’re perfect for preschool and kindergarten kiddos and would be a great companion to any farm animal book.
